Unless you were there, you can't quite imagine how beautiful it is to play Furnacetown at night, with the lush woods and the strings of lights. Such a beautiful location! They served food, drinks, alcohol...the crowd was sizeable and enthusiastic...it was a wonderful night! Elijah couldn't make it because he was working at Ft McHenry, so our dear Folk Heroes stepped in to flesh out the sound. Elijah, we missed you! Folk Heroes, thank you, as always! A big thanks to Emril, the events coordinator at Furnacetown, for making everything run smoothly and making it all look easy. Shoutout to Ms Jen Yackel and her family (unfortunately, we didn't get a pic!), Mr Chuck & Ms Brooke Amrhein, and Mr John & Ms Diane Baldwin, for their support!

No words for what Red Wing Academy & the Red Wing Roots Festival means to us individually, to our family, to our band. It's our FVavorite week of the year. #redwingacademy #redwingrootsfestival (Wish we would've taken one of these pics next to the signs in 2019, our 1st year at Red Wing!) Most of the pics above are taken by Lara Ressler Horst and a few are taken by Ava Louise. They're amazing! You should follow both of them! @ava.louise.photography & @lararesslerhorst All of the pics below were taken by The Manager. What a fun idea! Furnacetown's Fairy & Gnomes was a day filled with interesting entertainers, vendors, & attendees. Elijah couldn't make it, as he was drumming at Fort McHenry in Baltimore. So The Roadie and our friend Carmen Yates joined us under the pavilion that day. Thanks for dancing with us, Celtic Pierogi & Amberlina! Thanks for the loaned wings, Ms Amy Rhodes! Prepare to be stunned. This collage is a flashback to May 2023 when The FV cleaned up to play the wedding of @poodlina & @orthomar4515 in Bivalve, MD. Beautiful wedding! So glad to have been part of your special day! 🌋 (volcano...lava...iykyk!)
We were thrilled to be asked back to play Music & Arts at Pemberton Park for the 2nd year in a row! There aren't many pictures of this performance, as our fiddler Isabel had to leave the stage for most of the show, as she suddenly felt ill. Thank goodness Robin Cockey, awesome fiddler and Roadie, had just breezed in from out of town & could fill in! Pemberton, the opportunity to play for our community on your beautiful stage is always a treat! Thanks again! For the 3rd time this past year, the new theater troupe Fultontown Theatre has used The FV as the soundtrack to one of their productions. What an honor to be a part of this new & exciting artistic project on the Shore! And watching Shakespeare is tied with playing folk music for us Villains! So...anything to support Shakespeare (& any good theater!) on the Shore! Sometimes, the FH help the FV and sometimes it's the other way around! The Folk Heroes had a gig today with the Somerset County Historical Society at the Teackle Mansion in Princess Anne, and they asked us to come play and help flesh out the sound. Lots of people today. So good to see people out enjoying history! No, The Folk Villains didn't play the Avalon Theatre---though we'd love to!---but our favorite band The Steel Wheels did! The Roadie and The Manager got us tickets...2nd & 3rd row...concert was epic! And afterwards, to our surprise, not only did Mr. Eric Brubaker recognize us, he remembered our band. He was like, "The Folk Villains are here!" We all passed out. EMTs were called. Once revived, we took this picture. Two full days on a steamboat in a museum, cranking out those folk tunes for the Delmarva Discovery Museum in Pocomoke's Delmarva Heritage Days Festival. This was a long gig! Like...longer than Bruce Springsteen. Thanks, Big Daddy, for helping us out. Thank you, DDM, for letting us be a part of this Delmarvalous festival! One of our FVavorite gigs ever. We are honored that #worcestercountydevelopmentalcenter asked #TheFolkHeroes and us to return! And so glad to share the stage with the #oceancitypipesanddrums ! As well as St Patrick himself, some nuns, leprechauns...the whole gang! Here we are in Morley Hall @seacretsusa ! Such an amazing space to play! We are so...🍀lucky🍀! Thanks to our FVriends & FVans for coming out, especially Max & Danielle who drove the whole way from Northern VA to see us and even got a hotel just to be there! You're gonna make us feel FVamous if you keep up this level of FVandom! Thank goodness our friends, The Yates Family, came or else there'd be no pics of the FV at the Maker's Fest at Wright's Market! Guinevere had an equestrian competition and couldn't come, so The Folk Heroes came to the rescue! Two Villains & two Heroes. Equally matched!
We are beyond grateful for the honor of being BERLIN FIDDLERS CONVENTION'S BEST YOUTH BAND 3 YEARS IN A ROW: 2019, 2021, & 2022! Berlin, you love fiddlers and THESE FIDDLERS LOVE BERLIN!!! Thank you for yet another opportunity to play in America's Coolest Small Town! 🎻❤🪕 Big thanks to our #FVans for supporting us! We couldn't do it without you! And we mean it! It would stink to play for crickets! (We know...we've done it before!) Your cheers & applause mean everything! It's pretty amazing that you'd take a Saturday morning that you could use to do your own stuff and spend it supporting us. Just...wow...thank you! ❤️ Always good to see @nickhaglich the Rock-n-Roll Ambassador of Snow Hill!!! 🎸🤘🏻 Keep scrolling for the pic of when we first met Nick at the 2019 Worcester County Fair. Always good to rock with you, Nick! 📷 @hellooyster @kjd4terps @3birdshomeschool & @berlinchamber When The FV first played music at the Worcester County Fair in 2019, it was as talent show contestants. Winning that talent show was, in a way, our first paying gig. And it was also the first contest we'd ever won as a band. Now we are back, not as contestants, but as the entertainment. Four years as a band---whose members began the journey as 7th, 5th, & 3rd graders---with a global pandemic in the middle, we've come a long way! Big thanks to Kathy Decker, Barbara Barga, Susan Todd, & all of Worcester County 4-H for inviting us to play. Thank you to all of our FVriends & FVans for coming out to support us! What a fun gig! Any gig that involves a bake sale is our kinda gig. Thank you, Coops to Co-ops for again hosting The Folk Villains. Heroes, thanks for joining us! Five players are rowdier than three! Thanks to Iron Skillet Coffee for taking a video and snapping some pics, since The Manager couldn't do so today! Elijah's first year at Bela Fleck's Blue Ridge Banjo Camp was an unbelievable experience. Elijah learned from Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka, Kristin Scott Benson, Ryan Cavanaugh, Adam Larrabee, & more. Woody Platt of the Steep Canyon Rangers gave him some good mentoring & solid advice (yes, that's Elijah riding in a golf cart with Woody at check-in!). And Ryan Cavanaugh agreed to teach Elijah remotely after the camp's end. The final concert at the Brevard Music Center was outstanding. When do you see that many banjos onstage at one time? The answer is "hopefully again next year." Thank you so much, Ocean Pines Library & Jacob Nail, for having us today to play for the kids and to hold an instrument petting zoo! All the kids were super attentive and interested in our band and our musical instruments. The audience was so supportive. We had a wonderful time. Thanks so much! Yet another year at Red Wing Academy & Festival, our FVavorite places on earth! This year we were joined the whole week by Robin Cockey, so you know there was lots of Golden Pony & Kline's Dairy! So good to learn from The Steel Wheels & our RWA instructors again. Before The Folk Heroes, Robin Cockey played in Robby George and Friends @swarthmorecollege . We are honored to play with The Roadie's college band for the first time at #swarthmorealumniweekend 2022! Villains in the church? You know it! For the past few months, we've been singing with the Choir School of the Eastern Shore, under the direction of Daniel Cherrix, who is a lover of all types of music and isn't afraid to sprinkle a little folk/bluegrass into the mix. The congregation was very appreciative. We felt welcomed, indeed! Thanks, St Peter's and especially Mr. Cherrix! We are over the moon! Wicomico Parks & Rec has started a new tradition called Music & Arts at Pemberton Park. On each of the four Fridays in May, Pemberton hosts a band, food trucks, & local artists. Only 4 Fridays so...only 4 bands...and we were one of them! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Wicomico Parks & Rec for giving us a chance. The crowd was huge. The vibe was excitement for the summer season to come. We had an AWESOME time! A big thanks to our FVriends and FVans who came out to see us and to The Folk Heroes who let us borrow their awesome sound system! April pretended to be January today. So cold! Look at those Folk Villain hands in fingerless mittens to stay warm! But...cold can't cancel the FOLK! We had a GREAT time playing in Manokin Park today for the April Princess Anne Craft Fair & Market. Old FVans came wearing shirts, new FVans had an instrument petting zoo, and we met an interesting vendor called The Bag Lady! Thanks for having us, PACF! We've mentioned that we volunteer in the community a lot, right? Shoutout to our friends The Johnsons for keeping us company! |
